While reading Girl by Jamaica Kincaid I really didnt get the whole point of this short story. This story did mot have a plot or even a setting. Its basically a mother giving advice to her daughter. Some of the advice may sound strange to reader; it definitely sounded strange to me. This story is missing mainly missing a plot. Instead of having a plot I think Jamaica Kincaid was developing a how- to guide on life.
The mother tells the daughter basic household things like how to cook, do laundry, how to sew and even some light farming. For the daughter to completely become an adult so has to socially complete her development as a future wife and mother. I think the mother is passing down lessons that she learned from her mother down to her child. It sound like the mother does not have long to live so she is making sure that her daughter will be ready for the future.
The mother also tells the daughter if you do not follow theses rules or u deviate from the she would be called a slut or the kind of woman who the baker wont let near the bread. Even th......
