I) Low prices at what price? Wal-Mart has taken advantage of the 100 million US consumers who weekly go in search of its “everyday low prices”. It turns out that they are actually low since the average oscillates about 14% less than the competition but the fundamental question is: what is the real cost of these low prices? The answer depends on whether you are concerned with individual buyers or with the employees of thousands of suppliers working for Wal-Mart. Indeed on the one hand it is well-known that buyers constantly look for the best deal and the lower prices. Wal-Mart sells also products at low prices that people want to buy and this strategy enables customers to satisfy their needs. But on the other hand all the employees deal with the fact to be in thrall to Wal-Mart which is powerful enough and can oblige each supplier to reduce its costs.
