Investigating how the resistance of a wire varies with different lengths. Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Aim
My aim is to run a current of 2 volts through a piece of wire. I will then change the thickness of the wire to see if this will affect the resistance.
Prediction
I predict that the longer the wire, the higher the resistance will be. I predict this because, I think that a longer piece of wire will produce more resistance.
Theory
Because this experiment is about how electrical current runs through wire the free electron theory is highly relevant. The free electron theory treats electrons as freely moving within the body of a metal crystal or fluid. to order to find the resistance of the piece of wire I will use the equation:
Resistance (¶) = voltage (V) Current (amps)
(R= VI) to find the resistance form the readings I collect.
Electrical resistance is a measure of the degree to which an object opposes the passage of an electric current, therfore if the resistance is the current divided by the voltage the longer the piece of wire, the higher the resistance will be.
Variables
What I will change: Thickness and length.
What I will keep the same: Wire type,......
