1). Then the hippies were thought of as troublemakers and potheads. After marijuana became such a problem, the government made it an illegal drug. Still today marijuana is illegal, and if someone is caught with it a fine can be given and/or that person could be put in jail. Scientists have now discovered marijuana can be used as a prescribed medicine. Even though the drug is illegal, a person is allowed to have it when seriously ill if prescribed by a doctor. Whereas marijuana is an illegal drug, marijuana can be used for medical reasons.
