The Raft Of The Medusa By Théodore Géricault Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
When I first looked at The Raft Of The Medusa, the first few things that came to mind were suffering struggling, tension, and hope. Everybody on the raft is just reaching for something, desperately. I feel that the prominent attitude conveyed by Théodore Géricault in this massive painting is struggle, tension, and hope. After sitting down and breaking down the painting into the elements of visual arts, I feel that the elements prove that the message the artist is trying to suggest is tension and struggle these people experienced. At the same time, the artist gives the feeling of hope and a unity created by that group of people trying to survive.
The first element that drew my attention was the lines Géricault painted in his work. The majority of lines were diagonal, their arms, the mast, and the raft. Everything is progressively diagonal to the point of the highest man on the rafts diagonal arm, reaching for something.
