In todays society, women are gaining more status than ever before. More women are attending college, entering the work field, and participating in activities that were previously dominated by men. However, is our society overjoyed with the slow rise of womens power or reluctantly accepting it? In the 21st century it is has become common women to have jobs and split the duties and chores with there husbands. Where as, in the 19th century it was common for the women to be the perfect homemakers that depended on their husbands to provide for there every need. In Faulkners A Rose for Emily, Ibsens A Doll House, Chopins The Storm and The Story of an Hour society perceives women as housewives that should take care of the house and children and stand by their husbands no matter the circumstance. They were thought that women were born into the roles to be a mother and a wife and nothing else. These are portrayed in all the stories we will explore.
