Four hundred years ago, William Shakespeare wrote the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, a popular play that continues to capture the imagination and emotions of people around the world. Shakespeare was an English poet and playwright widely regarded as the greatest writer of the English language, as well as one of the greatest in Western literature, and the world's finest playwright. In the time when Shakespeare was writing marriage for love was not a common thing, as most marriages were arranged by the parents to keep the family’s wealth and status. It was assumed the men were superior and more vital than women in the play Romeo and Juliet act 1:1:14 it stated ‘..therefore women, being the weaker vessels..’ which shows that women was lower then men in rank. In the play Romeo and Juliet there are many types of love shown such as romantic love, unrequited love, unconditional love, family love, friendly love, true love, parental love, courtly love and love for the enemy.
