After the separation of the hunters and Ralph’s tribe and the tragedy of Simon’s death at the feast, Ralph, Piggy, and Samneric went to the hunters’ fort Castle Rock to negotiate for Piggy’s spectacles that the hunters have stolen. This passage indicates the climax of the entire novel, it is the battle of good and evil, of “law and rescue” and “hunting and breaking things up”. After a prolonged abandonment of civilization on the deserted island, the savagery and evil that lurks in all of the boys continued to grow and is exposed in this chapter. Piggy, the boy who “held up the conch” and upholds democracy tried to tell everyone the truth that the beast everybody fears is within themselves but was preyed on and hunted down like an animal by the savages. The characters Piggy and Simon suffered similar fates, both tried to reveal the truth of the “beast within”, instead they are seen as beasts by the savages and were mindlessly hunted down.
