It is amazing how the occupation of Lebanon which ended over 60 years ago, still has its mark until this day. I am not talking of the buildings, bridges and monuments erected by the French but of the French education system, which is still put in effect within 80% of Lebanese private schools.
My parents were French educated, so my path was pretty much laid out in front of me: Go to school, study and earn your French baccalaureate. It is funny how the norms of society have an effect on parents, because the fact was that I lived in the states for five years, spoke impeccable English and didnt mutter a word of French! Nevertheless my parents were compelled to send me to a French school in Lebanon which demanded that I repeat my class due to my weakness in their language. The norms had prevailed.
From the 12e class to the 6e class, the school gradually introduced new subjects that the curriculum demanded. So by the time I was 11, I was studying: math, French, Arabic, English, biology, physics/chemistry, art, music, history and geography. 11 subj......
