As of 2006, there exist 25 member states of the EU. Therefore, twenty five cultures, twenty five innovation systems and twenty five different sets of political and economic strategies exist. A key determinant of a countrys ability to establish a national competitive advantage is its ability to innovate. These innovation systems are largely shaped by a nations political and economical policies. It is also found that these changes in economic development will also have a profound effect on the culture of a nation. This paper will seek to discuss and analyze the following statement:
Do characteristics of Schmidts (2002) three models of Capitalism: Market Capitalism, Managed Capitalism and State Capitalism help to explain the creation and shaping of different national innovation systems, and does this economic development affect a nations culture?
