American Way of Life during the end of the 17th century Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

As the colonies began to be settled, there came to be known three different colonial regions: the South, the Middle states, and the New England region. All three of these regions would one day all become part of the United States. However, in the late 17th century, an American way of life, such as the one that we know today, did not exist. There was a sharp contrast between the three colonial regions, most importantly, the Southern and New England way of life. Three main points to compare would be their economy, society/ belief system, and the lack of an “American” way of life in all three colonial regions. While the New England colonies mostly focused on trading and industry, the Southern plantations based their economy on agriculture. New England, for example, traded fish and fur, while the Southern colonies cultivated tobacco and cotton. The demand for slavery was much, much greater in the Southern plantation colonies than it was in the New England colonies.
