Hard Choices: “The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant” and Armageddon Have you ever been forced to make a difficult decision? Well, the characters from the short story “The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant,” by W.D. Wetherrell and from the movie Armageddon have. In both the movie and the short story the protagonists have to make smart decisions that may effect their future throughout the movie and the story. In “The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant” the narrator/main character makes a hard choice that he soon begins to regret. The narrator is a fourteen year old boy that has a crush on a seventeen year old girl named Sheila Mant. The boy is a talented swimmer and enjoys fishing in his spare time. He tries to impress Sheila by swimming and doing tricks on the diving board in a lake that she sometimes goes to, but she never notices him. Finally, the boy gathers up enough courage to ask Sheila out on a date and she accepts. Since the boy is not yet old enough to drive he takes Sheila to a concert in his canoe. On ......
