Psychological Break-down of Esther Greenwood Background Ms. Esther Greenwood was raised in New England by her mother, father, and grandparents. When Esther was nine years old her father died. At the age of nineteen Esther moved away from New England to New York as a result of being one of the twelve winners of a fashion magazine contest. There she met people different from what she was used to in New England. She found herself becoming friends with people who were different from her who had a different yet more fulfilling lifestyle than hers. Some of the friends she made were Doreen (outgoing and glamorous southern girl), Betsy (sweet and innocent), and Hilda (hat maker). The first day that Esther arrived in New York was the same summer that the Rosenbergs were executed. Moving to New York changed Esther¡¦s lifestyle significantly. Doreen was the one who opened Esther up to meeting new guys and actually living her life in a different way. Growing up she had a mother who gave less guidance than a usual parent would. Not saying that she was a horrible parent, but there¡¦s a feel......
