Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Summary Fight Club is based on two characters, Tyler Durden and the nameless narrator. This nameless narrator hates his life and his job, and is sick of everything always being the same. He works for a car company that organizes ‘product recalls’ on the cars that have malfunctions. The narrator defines himself by his expensive perfect furniture, his clothes, car, and other material things that he owns. He has to travel across the country frequently for business related things, passing through different time zones. Those things combine cause him a lot of stress and he eventually develops insomnia. When the narrator goes to the doctor seeking help for his insomnia he isn’t subscribed pills like he was hoping. Instead, the doctor tells him to chew some valerian root and get more exercise. The doctor suggests that he go to a support group for men with testicular cancer to see what “real suffering is like”.
