What Are We Doing to Our Children? (ADHD) Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

It seems to me that doctors are becoming too relaxed when prescribing medications especially when the medication is for a child. What is even more disturbing is that as parents we are not questioning the doctorsÂ’ decision or even getting information about the side effects about certain drugs that are being given to our children. Although I do understand that the risk of putting some children on medications such as Prozac, Clonadine, Paxil, Ritalin and other prescription drugs far out weighs the possible side effects that these drugs can cause, I believe that this is becoming an all too familiar practice. The side effects of these medications include a whole rage of things from fatigue to erratic changes in heartbeat and even increased thoughts of suicide. Although the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) now requires a warning label to be put on these drugs, the fact still remains that the doctors and the companies who make these medications still are not doing enough to ensure that parents and children understand the risks involved.
