Causes of the American Revolution Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Throughout the eighteenth century, conflict mounted between the American colonists and the British homeland. Taxation was indeed the most visible issue that led to the Revolution because it was something that effected everyone, it enflamed the masses. Internal and external taxes both were present for two reasons, to enforce control over the colonists and to gain financially from the taxed. Even though taxation was the most visible issue, it certainly was not the only one. Another issue was the housing of British soldiers, and the desire for an improved political system. Taxation in the eighteenth century was in the form of internal and external taxes. Internal being fines such as the Stamp Act, and external being, for example, various tariffs imposed on the importation and exportation of goods to and from the colonies such as the Townshend Acts. Taxes were to the British, a means of control and revenue. Taxes caused a tremendous amount of controversy during the time period because both Britain and the colonists had conflicting views on how and what taxes should be. The colonists ......
