any organization, marketing is taking place. The strategic process of market first defines a target market and customer. Next, the organization begins to design a marketing mix which is interrelated to the target. This mix is designed around the customer and focuses on four primary categories, Product, Place, Price and Promotion. A marketing strategy is similar to strategic planning for management. The marketing strategy defines a targeted market and customer, and then designs the marketing mix for the target (Perreault-McCarthy, 2004). In this definition, the word target is referring to the where and who the customer is that will ultimately be sold. Once the business understands who its customer is, the next step is to understand the needs, wants and/or desires of this demographic Perreault-McCarthy, 2004). This crucial step sets the good plans apart from the great ones. Once company identifies the need, want and/or desires of the customer, the company can begin to design the marketing mix.
