Although society views class as the amount of money you have or social position, it has become apparent that class in America is just a deception. Kelly Lim provides some insight as to how class in America is deceiving: Most of my friends arent very rich, but the fake designer clothes they wear makes them seem as if they are a part of the upper-class. Many people in our society seem to spend money that they do not actually own in order to prove to others that they should be treated as an upper class. Class in America is deceiving because people who are in lower classes appear to be a part of the upper classes by the materials possess.
When a person who is wearing sweats and a t-shirt walks into a store like Tiffanys, it is obvious that they will get ignored by a seller that is helping a person who is wearing designer clothing.
