After the Dancing Days
Annies father has just returned home to small Kansas town in 1919. He was in the war as a doctor, stationed in New York. As Annie and her mother waited for him at the train station Annie saw the wounded men from the war when she arrived home with her family she couldnt get the wounded men out of her mind. After she saw the men she couldnt stop wondering if her Uncle Paul, who had died in the war, had suffered as these men did.
Once fall came Annie started school, her mother still a housewife and musician, and her father went to work at St. Johns Hospital where many of the wounded men from the war went. Annie visits her father one day after school and finds that she has a hard time even looking at the men who are here. She feels terrible and confides her feelings in her father one day while they are in the garden. He tells her to try and go one day with her grandfather who reads to Timothy a young boy who has been diagnosed with temporarily blindness. While there with her grandfather she meets Andrew a young veteran who was horribly burned.......
