Crime and Punishment Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In the novel called Crime and Punishment, the author. Fyodor Dostoevsky, makes evident the power of external influences upon the life of the protagonist of the story, Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov, or, quite simply, Raskolnikov. Although Raskolnikov does face a lot of inner turmoil and confusion throughout the novel, it is un-deniable that this tumultuous thinking of his is caused by the figures and events around him. As the novel progresses, it becomes apparent to the reader that one of these major influences is the impact of women on Raskolnikov’s life. There are three main women who continuously leave their imprint upon Raskolnikov’s life. They are: Pulcheria Alexandrovna Raskolnikova (his mother), Avdotya Romanovna Raskolnikova, Dounia for short (his sister), and Sofya Semyonovna Marmeladova, called Sonya. These three women continually re-appear in Raskolnikov’s life and, through their actions upon him, decide Raskolnikov’s emotional and mental state.
