Atlantis: Fact or Conjecture? Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Very little is known about Atlantis. There have been stories that the Atlanteans had vehicles capable of war and flight and were able to do medical miracles. But the only reliable source we have of this lost continent is from Timaeus and Critias, written by Plato over two thousand years ago. In Plato’s dialogues, there is a traveller called Solon who went to Egypt. Solon was actually Plato’s own grandfather. Solon starts off by telling an Egyptian priest about “early times.” The priest then tells Solon that his people (the Greeks) know nothing about the “early times” because they are too young. He goes on to say that the Greek myth of Phaëthon and his Sun chariot was a variation of what really happened. This could mean that the Priest was talking about asteroids, which caused widespread destruction of fire and water – flood. More importantly, the Egyptian priest talks about civilizations becoming too developed, ant then their progress descends again because they get wiped out.
