The convoluted path that led Chris McCandless, the main character of Into the Wild, to his death in Alaska brought Krakauer to wrought his brain in trying to understand the ordeal, yet ultimately grasping and relating “larger subjects” to Chris. Jon Krakauer the author of Into the Wild, developed three intricate theories of nature and man, the “larger subjects”, derived from the journey of Chris McCandless. On trying to understand McCandless’s need to go to Alaska on his own Krakauer explores the grip the wilderness has on the American imagination, through the aspiration of Chris. Through Chris’s numerous tests of both his physical and mental abilities is proof of his determination that Krakauer distinguishes to be the allure of high-risk activities held for young men of certain mind. Looking back upon himself, Krakauer, viewed similarities between his family and Chris’s family by the bonds between father and son.
