Richard Adams uses his allegorical tale of a rabbit society in the novel Watership Down to show his main theme that trust and teamwork are essential to having a productive society that is responsive to its members. He does this through the way he describes cultures and settings, creates his characters, moves his plot, and interweaves the rabbit culture, rabbit language and rabbit legend into his story. In the beginning of the novel, Fiver has a dream that soon Sandlefur Warren, the warren he was apart of, will be destroyed. When he wakes, he explains this to his brother, Hazel, and they go to warn the chief, Threarah. Threarah doesn't believe the small rabbits, so Fiver and Hazel decide to tell the rabbits they know, and some of them agree to go with them and leave the warren. During their journey, they find Cowslips Warren and during their stay, Bigwig gets caught in a snare, but the smallest of the rabbits- Fiver and Pipkin- help him escape from it.
