In 1995 Frank Nuovo, NokiaÂ’s visionary chief designer, began to develop his ideas for an expert company that produces the worldÂ’s most exceptional mobile phones. By 1997 Nuovo was ready to unveil his drastic plans to Nokia, and in 1998, Vertu was born as an independently run fully owned subsidiary of the phone manufacturer Nokia. A team of experts were established and for the coming two years their only concern was research and development and how to create the best handset. In 2001 Signature, (the first line of Vertu), was unveiled, each one hand-made from a set of unique components. Finally in 2002, VertuÂ’s first elite customers received their Signature mobile phones. Each one was a hand-crafted masterpiece. NuovoÂ’s vision had been implemented; the mobile phone that is constantly mass produced had become an exclusive product.
