One of the issues of the Joy Luck Club is the hardships for a Chinese mother to communicate with their Americanized daughter. This theme is portrayed many times within The Rules of the Gameof Waverly Jong and the story of Jing Mei Woo in Two Kinds. Some may be of the opinion that this issue was brought on by the Chinese mothers who decided to raise their daughter in America, so that they could be free and become more than what was hoped for. The predicament of the communication between Chinese mothers and their Americanized daughters is demonstrated by the chines pride portrayed by Waverlys mother, Lindo Jong. Furthermore, the pressure to be a Chinese prodigy for Jing Mei was also a reason of different opinions asserted by the Chinese mother and her American daughter.
