Karl Marx - Alienated Labor Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Karl Marx, probably one of the most influential philosophers of our time, borrowed the idea of alienation from the philosopher Hegel, but expands the view of the previous definition. Marx says that alienation results from a certain organization within society. In Marx’s works he proposes that the notion of alienation is observed in many modern instances, but that it is strongly evident in the system of capitalism. Marx feels that the working class is alienated or separated from the world that they live in. I intend to analyze how Marx defines alienation and alienated labor, the reasons for their existence in our modern capitalist society, and possible solutions to the alienation that makes work such an unbearable, but necessary evil. Marx attempts to define the concept of “alienation” in his Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844. He uses words that have been previously present in philosophy, Entfremdung (alienation or estrangement) and Entausserung (externalization or alienation), but defines them in a different way.
