Chapter One
Winston Smith (the central character in the story) lives in Oceania- a state where in individuals way of living are being watched and seen through telescreens (a television placed in all buildings and homes) by their Inner Party leader called Big Brother. With this, the State officials can easily detect the person who has dishonesty over them and is capable of committing crimes. Winston, eversince, did not agree with this kind of political control and is helpless to find ways on how this can be disputed. He knows that a simple facial expression showing oppose intention to the Inner Party (those who have the Power and Authority over the State) might leads him to death or other miserable punishment. And knowing the fact that in their kind of society, no one can be trusted even himself because the Party encourages only loyalty and love of Big Brother. This tends Oceania to become highly controlled by Big Brother and even eliminate love and honesty in the family. They did not let a couple to stay together if they will not be able to have a child.
