The Middle Passage When colonialism was set into motion, and the English were doing everything they could to make the voyage to the “New World,” they began giving up they’re freedom for up to 10 years so that they could move to the Americas, and sometimes as punishment. These indentured servants would have to work off their debts and would be freed upon the completion of those debts. Slavery replaced indentured servitude because the business would make people rich, it was free labor, an unlimited supply of labor, and because slaves did not have to be replaced every few years. Slavery began with the thought of egocentric idealism or the belief that one group or ethnicity believes that it is better than another. With this belief and the need for inexpensive work in the states, came slavery. Slavery is defined in Webster’s Dictionary as: one bound in servitude as the property of a person or household. Slavery ultimately a business initiated to use a person to do chores, watch children, work on a farm or plantation, and to do all the work that the owner or master could not due, did......
