What makes the perfect family? Some families are not as wealthy as others, some parents are divorced, or maybe the family just does not get along. No matter what the circumstance, it is very difficult to be the perfect family. Although there may be hard times or discouraging moments, the thing that can keep a family together is love. In the stories “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker and “I Stand Here Ironing” by Tillie Olsen there are some good examples of love. Both stories deal with a mothers’ determination to raise her children right while trying to overcome the hardships with income and sibling rivalry, yet the mothers never quit loving their children. Some families struggle for things other families can afford. In “Everyday Use” the family cannot afford a nice home. The oldest daughter, Dee, does not approve of the little run down house. The family loses their home to fire and while Dee is away at school they move into an even less impressive home.
