Comparative Essay - Rosalie Gascoigne and Robert Rauschenberg Rosalie Gascoigne was one of Australias greatest contemporary artists. Her work is made up of materials that she finds in the environment and she uses ordinary things in order to bring out the beauty in the Australian landscape. Robert Rauschenberg was one of Gascoignes influences; he was an American pop artist. His work consisted of objects from popular and contemporary culture. He arranged them in interesting and unexpected ways to portray the society of the time. Both Gascoigne and Rauschenberg experimented with different types of techniques and materials. Discarded everyday items were recycled into works of art. Objects which could be considered junk were used to represent various images, which the viewer could interpret in many different ways.
