A boy wont stand up for himself becomes a man who cant stand up to anything
I believe that the above quote is very inaccurate.By using Amirs life and his growth as character,it can easily be proven.In the beginning of the novel, Amir is not a very strong character.(In the sense that he cant stand up for himself or anything else.)But as the novel progresses ,Amirs character grows and he has more trust in himself ,therefore he can stand up for what he believes in.
Amir hears his father talking badly about him,but yet,he does not confront his father about it.He deosnt stand up for himself.
If I hadnt seen the doctor pull him out of my wife,Id never believe hes my son.(p.20)
I closed my eyes,pressed my ear even harder against the door... (p.19)
When Assef was about to beat them up in Chapter 5,Hassan had to step in because he knew that Amir didnt have the guts to do anything about it.
