Interracial Relationships and Marriages on the Rise? Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Increasing amounts of interracial marriages and relationships have increased ever since the Supreme Court declared anti-miscegenation laws unconstitutional (Fletcher, pg.2). There have been many trends regarding this trend itself because it also has found that interracial relationships are more common among younger couples, while interracial marriages are more common among older couples (Lang). Through much research and studies it has been found that there has been an increase of interracial marriages since the 1960s and therefore, now accounts for 4% of U.S. marriages. Many prejudices have obviously been put aside as the social acceptance of interracial marriages has increased as Fletcher says in his article, tenfold. Many plausible causes come to mind as we begin to find the reasons why this trend has increased over time, but also has been difficult to find any numbers regarding this trend due to lack of accurate numbers in studies.
