Friar Laurence and his role in Romeo and Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is Shakespeare's heartbreaking tragedy. It is about two lovers who commit suicide when their feuding families prevent them from being together. The play has many characters, each with its own role in keeping the plot line. Some characters have very little to do with the plot; but some have a lot to do with the plot. The character of Friar Laurence spends only a little time in the play, he is crucial to the development of the conclusion of the play. Friar Laurence is a spiritual and holy person to the society of that time. He is trusted and respected by the people. Friar Laurence also serves as a father like figure to Romeo and he always gives advice to Romeo of the right thing he should do. It is Friar Laurences good intentions, his willingness to take risks and his short sightedness that makes him so important in the play of Romeo and Juliet.
