Every human being changes, and if not, has the ability to. Situations, circumstances and people ultimately form humans into their own persona. Humans are adaptable to their environment, which is exactly what Othello has to do when his environment changes; adapt. When sudden changes are made in a person’s life, in Othello’s case, the loss of trust, accusation and betrayal, they naturally assimilate to compensate for the change just as a chameleon will change color to match its surroundings. In Othello’s case, the nature of his adaptation causes his relationships to shatter and his jealousy to override his actions. Othello lives in a healthy, safe, controlled environment. “Heaven bless the isle of Cyprus and our noble general Othello!” (II.ii.11-12). He has a home, a virtuous wife whom he loves and holds a position as a noble general with many followers. He is a stable man who has morals and opinions while remaining respected by others.
