Evacuation of children during war Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Throughout the war there were many different opinions in relation to the evacuation of children. Many believed that it was essential to send young children away from the dangers of the large cities to the safety of the tranquil countryside. There were, however those who believed that children should be kept at home with their families. Sources A-F display both the positive and negative attitudes to the evacuation scheme. Whilst some of the sources contradict each other there are those that are supportive, together they can be compared and analysed to an eventual conclusion of the Government movement that was Evacuation.
Source A is a photograph taken in September of 1939. We are told that it shows evacuees walking to the station in London. It is clear to see the young children smiling and waving enthusiastically at the camera. They appear to be accompanied by a group of adults. It does seem, however that the children appear happy to walk on ahead with friends and not hang back clinging to their parents (presumably).
