Body images have become one of the biggest pre-occupations in todays culture, especially amongst women. With most women having negative body images, is there still any wonder why as to 90% of all eating disorders cases are that of women and 91% of all cosmetic surgeries are done to women. With so much emphasis on body image and being thin, it is no wonder that eating disorders and cosmetic surgery are so popular and continue to be on the rise amongst teenage girls and women today despite their possible deadly consequences.
Eating disorders, as feminist Susan Bordo claims, are both disorders and extreme manifestations of cultural ideas and norms. The idealization of thinness has resulted in distorted body image and unrealistic standards as to what beauty and success really is.
