Siddhartha Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The Relationship between the two Worlds The book of Siddhartha written by Herman Hesse is about a man’s journey towards finding inner peace and happiness. Siddhartha was a handsome Brahmin’s son whose parents were proud of him because he was intelligent and thirsted for knowledge. The spiritual journey started when Siddhartha was only a young man with his friend Govinda. Siddhartha and his friend, Govinda, left their sheltered lives as Brahmins, Hindu priests, to be Samanas, ascetics who deny themselves all pleasure. In the years that they spent with the Samanas Siddhartha fasted for twenty-eight days. The flesh disappeared from his legs and cheeks but then he realized he had to move on with his life and leave the Samanas. Some years after, he and his friend met the Buddha, whom Govinda stays with to be a monk while Siddhartha leaves to continue on his own. The journey of the exterior world started after Siddhartha lost his friend Govinda. At the beginning of the journey Siddhartha met a ferryman who help him cross the river.
