Oedipus the king Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Oedipus his brother-in-law, Creon, to the Oracle at Delphi to learn how to help the city. Creon comes with an unexpected message; the plague will end when the murderer of Laius, former king of Thebes, is caught and expelled. Oedipus questions Creon more about the prophecy, but his blindness and sight keeps him far from the understanding it. He makes accusation without any clue, but have Jocasta help to understand the prophecy, and when he understands it, he punish and exile the murderer of the King Laius. Oedipus sends for Teiresias, the blind prophet, and asks him what he knows about the murder. Teiresias at first he refuses to tell Oedipus what he knows, however, Oedipus keeps trying to get the truth out of the blind prophet insulting him and going so far as accusing Teiresias of murdering Laius the king. Regrettably Teiresias tells him the truth and who the real murderer is. Naturally Oedipus does not believe and accuses Creon and Teiresias of being conspiring against him. Oedipus tries different ways to disprove Teiresias. He says that Teiresias is blind and not able to know who......
