A Texual Analysis of 'The Grudge' (Dir. Takashi Shimizu, 2004) Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

I am going to do a textual analysis of The Grudge (dir. Takashi Shimizu 2004) starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. The grudge is about a nurse working in Tokyo who is exposed to a supernatural being who takes the souls of people, kills them, then passes the curse onto another victim. Throughout The Grudge poster campaign, black is the main colour used and I believe the film producers have done this to create a mood and to get the audience who see the posters before the film is released to want to wait until the film is released. The way the face has been covered by the characters hair in the posters creates an image of mystery for the audience as you don’t know what the character actually is, it’s as if the character is hiding something, making the story difficult for the audience to predict. The expressions of the characters on the back of the DVD cover also portray an image of horror so the genre of the film is easily predicted because of the stereotypical dark images and, bold fonts and the tagline ‘it never forgives. It never forgets.’ The red colour of the fonts is another stereo......
