According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary prisons were created to keep lawbreakers in confinement, and away from society. According to the Bureau of Prisons they were then classified into five levels of security, minimum, low, medium, high and administrative. The high level of security is also known as United States Penitentiarys (USPs) this level has highly-secured perimeters (featuring walls or reinforced fences), the highest staff-to-inmate ratio, and close control of inmate movement. Its common name is Alcatraz; it is located on La Isla de los Alcatraces (Island of the Pelicans), named in 1775 by a Spanish Explorer Juan Manuel De Ayala, because of the number of sea birds there.
