During the previous chapter we studied the difference between hominids and hominoids and the evolutionary time line for human ancestors. Also, as a class we watched the Discovery Channel documentary on the Real Eve. From that we learned about mitochondrial DNA, and studied Lynn Margolis Endosymbiont Theory. While studying the time line of human ancestors, we also studied prosimians, before monkeys which includes lemurs. After prosimians came anthropoids. Anthropoids are broken up into two categories; hominoids and hominids. The hominoids include apes and humans, whereas hominids only include humans and their direct ancestors. Hominoids are distinguished from the Old World monkeys. The characteristics of hominoids include molar teeth, absence of a tail and large complex brains. Also, their arms are longer then their legs with the exception of humans. Examples of hominoids are gorillas, orangutans, gibbon, and chimpanzees.
