Giver Essay By: Amriya Naufer The community presented in the novel seems ideal. Everyone has a job for which he or she is suited emotionally, physically and mentally. Every family has a mother, father, and two children, one of each gender. There is much laughter and obvious joy. There is no rudeness, no crime and no disease. Everywhere you turn there's happiness, no talk of anything requiring anyone to be mournful. It is a perfect world! Unfortunately, every perfect world has a down side to it. Now this ideal community is tarnished when you actually think about it. Visualize living in a world in which, at the age of twelve you are assigned an occupation that a group of elderly people have decided for you. A world where you can’t have your own kids and your spouses are chosen for you. Imagine a world in which one can’t hear music or see beautiful colors.
