With the closing of World War II, the world divided between the surviving power houses; Communist Russia, and Democratic America. The rebuilding process quickly became a competition between ideologies. It wasnt long before the world fell into a deadlock known as the Cold War, where countries needing aid had to choose a side, or were simply assimilated altogether. Following the Cold War the theory of democratic peace stating that democracies do not fight each other became a widely accepted theory shedding an optimistic view of cooperation in the international level. While true within a small time frame (especially in historical terms) the democratic peace theory is only losing its credibility over time. Without the common democratic bond against an enemy ideology of communism and with more and more diverse countries becoming democracies through globalization, the democratic peace theory will prove to be wrong.
