Three Themes on The Taming of the Shrew Similar plot ideas, similar character names and several mutual references can be found in The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare, the stage play Kiss Me, Kate, by Cole Porter and the 1999 big screen movie, 10 Things I Hate About You. This paper will examine these similarities and will also contrast the ways in which these three works deal with the same basic story. . In Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, an Englishman named Christopher Sly becomes the object of a prank and is tricked into believing he is a lord. A pageboy dresses in women’s clothing and pretends to be the lord’s wife. When Sly asks to be left alone with his wife, his friends tell him that a traveling actors group is about to perform. This play takes place in the Italian city of Padua when a rich man named Lucentio wants to attend the university there. He falls in love with a beautiful local woman named Bianca who already has two men after her and has an olde......
