Deadly Feasts Written by Richard Rhodes in 1997, the novel “Deadly Feasts” illustrates the British government’s portrayal of mad cow disease and how it has influenced public perception as to the severity and risks of the brain disease cased by transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE’s), responsible for creating holes in both the brains of human and animals. Mad cow disease has killed a number of people in both France and Britain and remains to be 100% fatal. (Rhodes 97) The reason it spreads so fast is the way cattle and other livestock are fed. To cut down on cost, farmers feed animals byproducts of that same animal, elevating the risk of disease transmission. (Rhodes 97) What also makes this disease so unique is the fact that it is impossible to kill; it has been exposed to nearly every thing, including radiation and extreme temperatures, still having the capability to infect.
