Commercial aircraft industry started with the French emissary Arnold Fordyce on December 27, 1906, when he purchased on flying machine from Wright Brothers. At the beginning, aircrafts were used mostly for military and mail delivery. In 1930s, United Airlines started to operate the first commercial airline. Deregulation caused the hub-and-spoke system. In 2002, 142 hub airports accounted 80% of U.S. air travels. Because of this system, regional airlines were founded to fill the gap. The FAA categorized the regional airlines to have less than $100 million in revenues and provide services between one large city and the surrounding small cities. Due to September 11 incident, the increase in security at the airports had negatively affected the commercial airlines. Moreover, the demand for seats had decreased by 20% from August to September. This caused the airlines to cancel flights, layout employees, and retire aircrafts.
