How is Shylock trested in the Merchant of Venice by William Shakesphere Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

After recently reading the play “The Merchant of Venice” by William Shakespeare it became clear to me that the characters in the book show hate and racial discrimination towards Shylock. Shylock is a Jew by religion and a money lender by trade. Due to his religion and choice of work lifestyle he is one of the most hated men in all the city of Venice. We see that one man who is not fond of Shylock is Antonio. We know this because we see him spit on the face of Shylock when he tries to make contact with him in the streets. Amazingly Shylock is even hated by his own flesh and blood, his beautiful daughter Jessica. Jessica has no respect towards her father. She proves this when she runs away with her Christian love Lorenzo to get married. To make her father even more hurt she steals all his jewels and money, and even her dead mother’s wedding ring. During the 1600’s in Venice racism was an everyday occurrence. People were labelled for their religion and not seen for the person they were inside.
