1946, What A Year! Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Poverty, the word poverty has very many meanings, and the meaning that best fits 1946 would be having little or no money or a shortage materials. Living in poverty is not fun and in 1946 the year was full of poverty during the war and post depression. During these times many families had to make due with what they had. At this period and time supplies were tight and were used sparingly, with World War II happening. They had to survive dealing with the everchanging issues of culture, education, entertainment, religion, and politics. The culture in the 1940s was very different from today. Fashion was a major concern for some, but a minor one for others. The lower-middle class and the lower class bought anything they could afford. Some even made homemade outfits (Connatser). The upper-middle class was captivated by the “New Look” made popular by Christian Dior. Full skirts, tight waists, and high heels were worn daily. Women (as well as some men) considered fashion to be their passion (Goodwin N.P.). At home, teens worked on their family’s farm. They cleaned and cook......
