Progressive discipline is a process for dealing with job related performance that does not meet expected and functioning standards. The reason for progressive discipline is to assist the employee to understand that a performance problem or opportunity for development assist. Corrective action is an action taken to get rid of the causes of an existing eccentricity or other undesirable situation. The goal is to improve and correct employee performance.
Discipline is difficult and unpleasant, but some supervisors dont do it, dont do enough, or do it wrong. Its a way of reaching out to employee and getting him or her back on the right track. Discipline enhances productivity and improves morale if communicated properly to employees. The process of discipline is not intended as a punishment for an employee, but to assist the employee to overcome performances and satisfy job expectations. When discipline is communicated to individuals successfully the organization achieves a greater work performance.
