Arthur Millers A View from the Bridge is a tragic play regarding a tale of demise of the Carbone household. The play is held in the 1950s Red Hook, Brooklyn community of the U.S.A. Alfieri leads a dual role in the play. He performs the roles of a thoughtful Italian American lawyer and the function of a chorus. Alfieri conducts the role of a chorus in the prologue and epilogue of A View from the Bridge, as well as in various parts throughout the whole of the play. This gives the reader a brief background on the subject addressed or a subtle foreshadowing indication of events to come. The action of the lawyer comes in when Alfieri is physically or verbally addressing another character, facilitating the play between various characters.
Alfieri is a key figure within the central theme of justice, although this notion differs from culture to culture, because he is an Italian American lawyer.
